Wisconsin child dies after being struck by car after crossing road to get mail

A child who was crossing the road after getting the mail was hit by a car and killed in Wisconsin on Monday afternoon, according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the 8-year-old was walking across County Road H when the child was struck by a car heading northbound.

The child was thrown into the ditch and was later pronounced dead, county officials said.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with the investigation.

“Our condolences go out to the family of the child and all those affected,” Sheriff Corey J. Dassow said.
