An iconic Maplewood movie theater that opened in 1967 is making a comeback after closing during the pandemic due to changes in the film industry, including more direct-to-streaming releases.
The Plaza Theater, which will only be open on Friday nights and Saturday’s, will go back to its original business plan of showing second-run movies and retro features.
Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12 will be the theater’s first days open and tickets will still be $5.
Along with the plan to open the theatre, the Plaza, which is owned by Woodland Hills Church, will soon restart its youth job-skills partnership with UpNext, which will offer training in leadership, financial literacy, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships.
