Blaine police officer thrown from car during DWI investigation, suspect taken into custody

A Blaine police officer was injured after being thrown from a car during a DWI investigation on Monday afternoon.

At around 2:30 p.m., Blaine police responded to a crash at the intersection of Jefferson Street Northeast and Northtown Drive.

Witnesses said that the driver of an older-model Corvette was driving the car recklessly before the crash, and an officer observed signs of impairment.

During the investigation, the driver started walking back to his car, and although police ordered him to stop, he got into his vehicle. An officer tried to remove him, but the driver reversed the car while the officer’s body was still partially inside.

Witnesses said the car backed up quickly, stopped abruptly and then went forward quickly, causing the officer to be thrown from the vehicle.
