DHS pledges to work with providers caught in crosshairs of Minnesota's fraud crackdown

ST PAUL, Minn. — The fallout from Minnesota's fraud crisis returned to the spotlight at the state capitol on Wednesday, with a Senate Human Services committee inviting testimony from Medicaid providers still caught in the fraud crackdown. 

After the Trump administration threatened to withhold $2 billion in Medicaid funding, the Minnesota Department of Human Services began the process of revalidating thousands of providers across the state, essentially to confirm their legitimacy in light of fraud allegations. Largely due to paperwork issues and not necessarily fraud, though, DHS disenrolled many of them from Medicaid funding, leading to a lengthy appeals process that has lasted throughout the summer.
