The names on the head coach’s office door may have changed, but inside Centennial’s football program, the blueprint remains the same.
Last Thursday’s season-opening 20-0 victory over Rosemount offered the first public glimpse of life after long-time head coach Mike Diggins. The Cougars didn’t just beat one of the state’s premier programs. They dominated defensively, pitching a shutout and controlling the game from start to finish. It also marked the first victory for new head coach Michael Diggins, who had spent years preparing for the moment. He is the son of Mike and the program’s former defensive coordinator.
“You grind all summer. You grind in August,” head coach Michael Diggins said. “Our kids worked so hard. Since December they’ve been together. Our weight room program has been great, and they came together last week.”
