At 91, Helen Woodyard defied age norms by earning her GED.

GEORGIA, USA — Helen Woodyard had wanted to get her GED for years.

Her four children had earned their diplomas, and Woodyard always wanted to do the same. So on her 88th birthday, she made a decision that would take nearly three years to complete: She went back to school.

At 91, Woodyard walked across the stage at West Georgia Technical College and earned her GED, becoming the oldest person in Georgia to earn the credential in the past decade, according to the Technical College System of Georgia.
