3 firefighters injured, 2 residents displaced after Minneapolis house fire

Three Minneapolis firefighters were injured Monday afternoon in a house fire that displaced two people.

Crews were called to a 1.5-story, single-family home with flames and smoke visible on Russell Avenue North around 4 p.m. on Monday, a spokesperson for the Minneapolis Fire Department (MFD) said.

Firefighters extinguished flames on the first floor before continuing to fight the fire on the second floor, MFD officials said. A second alarm was requested because of the fire’s size, which authorities say was spreading quickly.

The flames were put out after around 30 minutes, and a search of the home followed. The two residents of the home were not injured, but the house was boarded, and the Red Cross was called in to assist them, MFD said.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries, MFD said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
