Water Tower Wednesday: Carlos

Water Tower Wednesday is soaring to new heights today with a breathtaking aerial view of the Carlos water tower in Douglas County, snapped right from the cockpit of a plane.

Viewer Jay Loeffler captured the stunning bird’s-eye shot and shared a fascinating piece of history connecting water towers and railroad tracks.  It turns out steam engines once relied on water towers to gravity-feed thousands of gallons into their engines, a tradition that lasted from the late 1800s all the way through the 1950s.
