A pilot safely crash-landed a family-owned plane in the ocean off Boca Raton, Florida, after engine trouble during a flight to the Bahamas.

WASHINGTON — A pilot is safe after her plane, headed to the Bahamas, made an emergency landing in the ocean near a Florida beach on Saturday. 

Cellphone video captured the moment the small plane crash-landed in Boca Raton, Florida, on Aug. 22.

"What the?" the man filming said as he walked down the beach. "Oh, that's unexpected."

The pilot told CNN she felt safer landing in the water rather than trying to dodge buildings near the coast.

"I don't think that's a plane that's made to land on the water," the bystander said as the plane landed in the ocean. "That was wild."
