WASHINGTON — If you have a cat named Luna, you’re in good company. The name has held the top spot on U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of the most popular cat names in America for the third consecutive year, the publication announced in honor of Happy Cat Month in September.

There are at least 53 million homes in the United States with at least one cat, according to U.S. News & World Report. The rankings are based on an analysis of more than 3.5 million data points from Fletch, a pet insurance industry partner, covering U.S. pet insurance customers from January 2022 through June 2026.
