Bystanders extinguished the flaming furniture by the time police arrived Monday morning.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The St. Cloud Police Department is investigating after a fire broke out at Crossroads Center mall on Monday morning.
In a press release, the police department said the fire occurred around 9:15 a.m., about 45 minutes before the mall officially opened. Bystanders extinguished the flames on furniture near the food court by the time officers arrived.
The St. Cloud Police Department said a 57-year-old man admitted to intentionally starting the fire. He is awaiting charges at Stearns County Jail.
"Mall operations have been affected due to the damage and ongoing ventilation," St. Cloud PD said in a statement.
