A city in the northwest metro could increase its property tax levy by nearly 20% for next year.
On Tuesday, the Rogers City Council approved a preliminary levy increase of 19.28%, which would represent a $276 tax hike for a home with a median value of $466,800.
Growing pains
According to data from the Metropolitan Council and the U.S. Census Bureau, Rogers grew from 11,197 residents in 2010 to an estimated population of 17,626 in 2025, a 57.4% increase in 15 years.
Rogers City Administrator Steve Stahmer told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that growth brings added costs.
“There are costs that come with that growth; it’s more lane miles of road, it’s more parks, it’s more police and fire calls,” Stahmer said.
Stahmer said the proposed increase is tied to several things, including added staffing costs. He said public safety is a top priority.
