Violent crime in Minnesota declined in every major category last year, according to new data released by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Instances of murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault all decreased in 2025, and overall violent crime dropped for the fourth straight year to the lowest level since 2019, the annual Uniform Crime Report shows.
Year-over-year changes from 2024 to 2025 include:
- 42 fewer murders (24.4% drop)
- 43 fewer rapes (1.9% drop)
- 784 fewer robberies (27.6% drop)
- 1,080 fewer aggravated assaults (11% drop)
According to the BCA report, violent crime dropped faster in the seven-county Twin Cities metro (14%) than in Greater Minnesota (9%).
