On stage at Guthrie, Gov. Walz reflects on eight years in office and charts path forward

MINNEAPOLIS — Gov. Tim Walz reflected on his eight years in office and hinted at his future plans on Tuesday afternoon in an exit interview with The Minnesota Star Tribune, as part of the organization's North Star Summit at the Guthrie Theater.

The 25-minute conversation with Star Tribune vice president and opinion editor Phil Morris marked Walz's most extensive public appearance in several weeks. With sagging approval ratings, the governor has largely avoided campaigning with fellow Democrats in the heated 2026 election cycle and spoke very little about the midterms while on stage with Morris.
