WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A North Carolina mother is stepping in to help families struggling with school transportation problems as the school district in her hometown of Winston-Salem continues working to fill dozens of bus driver vacancies.

Shanice Crawford said she began seeing parents discuss transportation problems in a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County parent support group on Facebook. Some parents reported buses not arriving, passing students or missing stops.
