A camp for disabled veterans is helping participants return to activities they once thought were out of reach while building confidence and camaraderie.
“I can actually move,” Keenan said. “I love it. My wife and I both love the water.”
That connection to the water eventually became part of his career. Keenan joined the U.S. Navy in 1988 and served as a quartermaster aboard a fast-attack submarine.
Keenan's service included dangerous missions in enemy waters and responding to fires aboard the submarine.
"We were always doing drills and constantly on top of everything," Keenan said. "You're very much in a sense of knowledge that, you're underwater, and if one tiny thing goes wrong, it's not going to go well."
