Hennepin County court finds man not guilty due to mental illness after killing of Minneapolis grocery clerk

Schulz will be indefinitely committed at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Hennepin County District Court ruled Thursday that Taylor Schulz is not guilty of killing a Minneapois grocery clerk by reason of mental illness. 

Schulz was accused of beating 66-year-old Robert Skafte with a golf club at Loring Park's Oak Grove Grocery on Dec. 6, 2023. 

Skafte's friends told KARE 11 that he was a well-respected and longtime fixture in the Twin Cities community. He was remembered as an avid gardener and acclaimed dancer.
