FBI raids Red Lake Reservation child welfare facility, investigation underway

The FBI is investigating a child welfare facility on the Red Lake Reservation after executing a search warrant Thursday at Ombimindwaa Gidinawemaaganinaadog, formerly known as Family and Children Services.

The FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs have not made any arrests so far, and an FBI spokesperson said they can’t release more information because the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, the Red Lake Tribal Council said it is aware of ongoing law enforcement activity at the Ombimindwaa Gidinawemaaganinaadog child welfare building on the reservation.

Tribal leaders said the Red Lake Nation will continue cooperating with the FBI and tribal law enforcement partners while also protecting the tribe’s sovereignty and the safety of community members and employees.

According to the FBI, there is no threat to the public.
