Marmots are having a moment. Researchers in Colorado are hoping their Fat Marmot Week contest can extend their time in the spotlight.

GUNNISON COUNTY, Colo. — Marmots are having a moment, and you can participate in that moment by voting in the very first Fat Marmot Week contest, starting Monday.

No body shaming here. Move over, bears, because marmots are the largest "true" hibernators on Earth. Marmots need to get fat because they take a break for seven to eight months of the year, and in that time they burn through all that fat.
