Lawmakers visited New Richland on Monday to survey the damage left behind from flooding over the weekend.
NEW RICHLAND, Minnesota — Cleanup is underway in New Richland after the town saw nine inches of rain over the weekend.
City Administrator Tyler Lendt said 75-80% of homes in the community have been directly affected by the floodwaters. He estimates that's about 350-400 properties.
Among the homes with flood damage is Carol Schlaak's basement. Homes along Highway 30 were some of the hardest hit.
"It came so fast and so hard. It was like a blizzard. You could hardly see. It was really coming down," Schlaak said.
